1. Wat Phu Prao
   It's located in the Chong Mek district near the Laotian border, 90 kilometers from Ubon Ratchathani, this charming little temple on a hill mostly attracts visitors in the evening when the paintings of its back façade and its tree and symbols on the ground illuminate. A difficult moment to photograph without a tripod and a long exposure because it is not really illuminations but phosphorescent paintings that ''load'' in daylight and reveal themselves as soon as night falls. It's beautiful to look at and make great photos as long as you do what it takes to immortalize it.
   The best time to see the phenomenon is during the dry season (December to late April) because the sun is more present. In the rainy season, if the weather is to cloudy before dusk, as it was the case for me -it was raining when I took my night time pictures), the paintings will be less luminous. But even by day time, the temple is beautiful, it just takes a fairy dimension at night.
2. Wat Phra That Nong Bua
   It is a Dhammyuttika temple, one of important temples in Ubon Ratchathani. The highlight of this place is Sri Maha Pho Chedi which was built in 1956 to honor of 2500 years of Buddhism. The gleaming gold and white chedi at this temple loosely resemble the Mahabodhi stupa in Bodhgaya, India. The old stupa with 5 meters wide and 1 meter’s high is now housed by the new 55-meter stupa square base. It stands in the middle of a marble slabs square, with smaller stupas at each corner.
3. Pha Taem National Park
   It's covering the area of 140 square kilometers, this national park features the plateaus, hills, deciduous dipterocarp forest, sheer cliffs resulted from the earthquakes, irregular shaped of sandstone which scattered around and the beautiful wild flowers growing among the rocky ground. Highlight of the Park are Pha Taem and Pha Kam which located near the National Park headquarters. Surface of the cliffs are filled with numerous prehistoric cave paintings dated back 3,000-4,000 years ago that explores the traditional way of life of people who once lived here during the prehistoric days. Scenes in paintings include fishing, rice farming, human figures, animals, hands and geometric designs.
4. TWO-COLORS RIVER in Ubon Ratchathani
   It's located in Amphoe Kohng Jiam where the Mun river runs into the Mekong river, the idea of the 2 colors is when the rivers are low, or not flooded like when I was there, the Mun river being a kind of blue color runs into the brown Mekong river, where the 2 rivers meet there is a distant line of 2 different colored water. Judging by pictures other people have posted online you can see the 2 colors but it is not nearly as amazing as a few other places around the world, but still cool. There are long-tail boat tours/rides available, shopping, lots of restaurants, a park, a couple of temples, etc., plenty of things to check out.
